After 100,000+ casualties and over $1 trillion spent, what has the US accomplished in Iraq & Afghanistan?

To this day, I have no idea what they're doing in these countries and how they're helping their people.. Could someone with good knowledge of the matter please explain what the status quo is and if the situation has progressed or worsened since the beginning of the wars, and in what way. Please, no hippies. Thanks a lot!
